Lessons learned

I've been a mommy for almost 7 years now! For real! I feel older all of a sudden! Haha!

I was thinking this morning about what I've learned in those 7 years. As every mom knows, you learn new things every day...

Like how to double sheet a bed, or how to discreetly sneak a cookie without every child in the house asking for one, or how to have an entire conversation with yourself on a pretend toddler phone...

or how about that sequence you do at restaurants:
1. arrange seats with proper child placement
2. Move all knives, salt shakers, sugar packets, or anything that squirts to opposite side of table
3. Pull out a wipe & clean the table to your standards
4. Sit kids in their assigned locations & hand them crayons and/or toys to occupy them
5. Sit down & figure out what to order your children. You, of course will not know what you want until the waitress says "and you, ma'am?". Oh crap. I forgot to look at a menu!

We can all teach each other a thing or two... What things have you mommies learned over the years?

What is a good mommy?

Yesterday I was changing the baby for what seemed like the 100th time. Next to me, my 2 year old was "changing" her baby doll, Paisley (is that not THE cutest name?! Lol. If only we did P names...). After she was finished, she lifted her shirt to feed baby Paisley.

I asked what she was doing & she says... "I'm nursing my baby 'pays-wee". I told her that was very nice of her. Then my sweet girl says, "yep! Good mommies feed their babies!"

No joke! Lol. So, then I started it. All the kids were in the family room playing, and I ask "what else does a good mommy do?"

These are the 5 things that a "good mommy" does according to my 5 kids:

1. Nurse their babies a lot & usually at dinner time (haaaha!!!)

2. Sing songs (especially at bedtime)

3. Hold their babies

4. Lay with kids at night

5. Play w their kids

I love the simplicity of it all! This is what stands out to my kids.

Now of course they don't understand adult things like moms who physically cannot breast feed, or maybe a parent who works nights & cannot be there at bedtime, but it's what is at the heart that is so precious. What do they want? Comfort, love, attention...

All you need is love, right? ;)

Come to Me

There's a song I've had on repeat for a few weeks now! It's "Come To Me" off "The Loft Sessions" from Bethel Music in Redding, CA. The verses are deep & awesome, but the chorus & bridge are what do it for me...

Come to Me
I am all you need
Come to Me
I'm your everything

I am your anchor in the wind & the waves
I am your steadfast, don't be afraid
Though your heart & flesh may fail you, I'm your faithful strength
I am with you wherever you go

It's been such great strength for me! HE is my faithful strength! HE is the anchor! What a blessing that someone else is the anchor, because let me tell ya... I am SOOOO not the anchor! Haha!

When the laundry is piled taller than my children, and I don't remember who's teeth got brushed this week, and we're running around from playdates to dance class to Daycamp... I just have to trust in that faithful strength!

The Bible says the JOY OF THE LORD is my strength! I'm so very glad!

Friday Top Ten- lost items

Miss 5 year old... she's fun, she's creative, she's fabulous, she's a little messy... & she loses things! Like, usually one half of anything that should be a pair!

I cleaned out our van this week! Oy vey! The things I "found" we're both surprising & repulsing. I found several of my lovely daughter's belongings.

So, this week's top ten?!
THE TOP TEN ITEMS BELONGING TO MY 5 YEAR OLD that were found in the van...

1. 4 apple cores. That girl could eat her weight in apples! But it's almost impossible for her to get them in the trash! We've come a long way... we are at least getting MOST in the trash now! :)

2. Approximately 16 hair bands & 10 clips. Her hair stays in tact ON THE WAY to whatever location, but instantly comes out on the way home!

3. Raisins in the window ledge. No biggie, right?! Well, they used to be grapes! Ha!

4. Bracelets. Lots of bracelets.

5. Crayons. Lots of crayons.

6. A nice stack of mini notebooks & "I Can Read" books. She likes to keep busy in the 10minutes it takes us to get most places.

7. A pair of dance tights. I assume they fell out of her bag & that's how they got lost in the great abyss that is called Eliza's cup holder! I don't know...

8. 3 purses. Girls need lots of purses.

9. Sparkles... like all over the floor!

10. My favorite part: 4 shoes. NONE OF WHICH BELONG TO ONE ANOTHER! Haha! They all have matches inside the house. First of all, how have we not found these until now? Maybe they were buried under all the apples & books & hair bands & grapes turned raisins... Secondly, how did she make it in the house with only one shoe on? I'm kind of impressed, to be honest! ;)
